Sometimes you do not find out who was in service in your city or town until years later, or when they pass away.
While I was looking at micro-film at the Hackensack Library researching the 1950
Hackensack High School Baseball team, I came across this obituary on William Smith.
William lived in Hackensack his entire life, and he was a Charter member of the Hackensack Yacht Club.

where we learn after his death at age 62 that William Smith served overseas with
Battery B 308th Field Artillery Fifth Division.
